Portuguese Laurel Tree Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' The Portuguese Laurel is one of those evergreens that does everything quietly well. Dark, pointed leaves on deep red stems, fragrant white flowers in early summer, and red to black berries in autumn that birds love. It holds its shape, tolerates most conditions, and looks good all year. Trained as a standard, it's a particularly refined presence on a patio or at an entrance. Native to the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, Prunus lusitanica is fully hardy across the UK and more resilient than its cousin Cherry Laurel. It tolerates most soil types including chalk, and grows equally well in sun or partial shade. It's also one of the few evergreens that does well when trained as a topiary form. This plant is also known as Cherry Bay and Portugal Laurel. Grow in sun or partial shade in well drained soil of most types. Prune to maintain shape in late spring, and again in early autumn if needed. Water regularly while the plant establishes, then reduce as it becomes more self sufficient. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser. Decorative pot not included.
